Mr. Henry - May 5, 2001 - January 18, 2007

About a week and a half ago, Henry started acting odd (odder then usual). Walking funny, tilting his head to one side and running into things. I took him to my vet - Monroe Veterinary Clinic on S. Monroe St., and the vet checked him out. He couldn't find anything wrong with him, so he did a blood test. The blood test showed up fine, but Henry proceeded to get worse. Eventually I had to carry him around. My vet decided to do another blood test (for whatever reason), again, it came up good. He suggested a specialist, but wasn't too helpful in explaining to me what was going on.
I decided to get a second opinion and took him to River Raisin Vet., on N. Monroe St. I was really impressed with their staff. They immediately hooked Henry up on an I.V., gave him steroids, covered him with blankets and surrounded him with warm water bags to bring his temperature back up.
The vet there explained to me that it could possibly be addison disease because of the low (or high - forget now), potassium level in his blood. She said she's seen dogs come in looking like how Henry did, and come right out of it with proper treatment.
She also said, he could have a major neurological issue. I think she was leaning toward this, because of his history with epilepsy. A possible brain tumor.

We agreed, that if by the end of the day, he wasn't showing major signs of improvement, that I would have to A) make a decision to transfer him to a neurological doctor, and prepare myself for thousands of dollars in medical bills - that may not be successful, or B) have him euthanized.

As of the afternoon, Henry hadn't really improved. His breathing was still erratic and he was still barely able to lift his head.

Without tests upon tests, we really won't know why this all happened, but I trust the vet, as she leaned toward the neurological side that caused his health to deplete so quickly.

Anyhow, I wanted to record this event, while it was still fresh in my mind - and, for those of you who got the chance to hang out with the crazy dude, to let you know ahead of time why he's not knocking you over when you walk through my front door.

But if you do come by, the rule to keep your hands above your waste remains in effect - Daisy still loves to chomp fingers. :)

Cantelope

Found out today I LOVE cantelope. Dad never thought i'd go after a whole cantelope that he left sitting on the counter.. boy was he wrong. One bite turned into me almost devouring the entire thing! The outter shell was tough, but boy the inside of that melon was nice and sweet. Once again, i'm outside for the evening.. :(

Chocolate Cake

I did this about a week ago. My dad usually remembers to put the cake back in the microwave so that it's not tempting me.. but he forgot. Ate the whole cake, and chewed up the lid.
Mom was pissed. Dad owes her a new Pyrex lid. I had to stay outside the whole afternoon.

Video for Uncle Aaron

This one goes out to my Uncle Aaron who always makes it a point to stop and pet me when he comes over. The bad part is, he always cleans up the beer bottles in the yard after a campfire. My dad leaves them when he goes to bed, and I get to lick the beer out of all of them. Mmmm. Beeeer.

Check out this Heineken commercial with a dog that looks kind of like me!

Alright. Back to lounging.

My Blog

Hi everyone. I figured since my owner has a blog, what the hell, I may as well too. I'll probably include some of this in my bio, but for my first post, I suppose I'll explain me:

I'm part Golden Retriever, part Lab. I was born and raised in Monroe, MI. My parents are black, and so are some of my sisters and brothers (I'm the 8th pup of the liter). I don't see them anymore, but it's no big deal, I've got a new family now, so it's all good.
My dad is Rob. He's a cool guy, pretty mellow like myself. He's been fun to hang out with. I know I was trouble growing up, I liked to chew things, and as I got bigger, I figured out how to get up on the counters. Dad even tried to put hot sauce on the edges of the counter, thinking that would deter me.. HA. Sucker.. I love hot sauce.

I've got it pretty good here. I have two sisters, one is a cat named Ramona, and the other is a Schipperke. She is really bossy, and is a spoiled brat. She gets pretty much anything she wants. I don't really mind, I could beat her ass if I really wanted to, but she's fun to run around the yard with. Daisy's mom has been really good to me too, i can tell she loves me because she's always saying "Henry...Kitchen... Now!"

We found out when I was 2 yrs old that I'm epileptic. Talk about crazy! I kept waking up at the doggie hospital, that was nuts - but I did like the tube they stuck in my leg - constant valuum! After like 1 year, I got a new vet, and he put me on two different kinds of drugs that controls my seizures. The negative side to this is the little pink pills make me fart like a mo-fo!

I have been eating the same dog food since I was born. My dad shaves me a couple times a year, usually once before my birthday which is May 5th (cinco de Mayo!). He gives me mo-hawks, which makes me look bad-ass. I love to ride in the bronco, and camping rules, I especially love the campfires -except not the time that I stuck my tail and foot in the fire.. but that's another story!

Welp - I'm not sure i'll keep this up daily, but I will post the events that happen in my life. So, keep checking back.. I seem to accidently get into trouble on a daily basis, so they'll be some silly stories to come. :)
